Rooted Series [#1b]: Habakkuk 1:5

[Habakkuk 1:5]

“Look at the nations and watch – and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”

Over the past 10 days I’ve been praying over this verse, both for each day individually, as well as the entire year.

As some of you know, God has called me into a unique leadership position at my job this year. I don’t have a General Manager in my city, and while I am under the incredible support of a GM and Area Director in DC… when it comes to Team Philly, I have to be the leader taking care of my team and city.

It’s a big job. It’s a scary job. It’s a job I never thought I’d be called to take.

But once I started realizing that people believed in me, and saw things in me that I didn’t see or believe in myself… I started praying that God would utterly amaze us this year. That our team would be utterly amazed at all we accomplish. We would be utterly amazed at our team culture, and how well we serve our schools. That we would be utterly amazed at how much we grow as individuals and as a team. Even that we would utterly amaze our company. That we would no longer be the team that is struggling to survive, but a team that utterly amazes others because of our success.

These are big prayers. But they are exciting prayers. God has called me into this unique position to lead this team and lead them well. And I am excited to continually pray over this team… that we, our schools, our company, would be utterly amazed at all we accomplish this year, together.

Alicia and I met up on Friday to talk about Team Philly’s vision. And because of this verse, I knew I wanted the words “utterly amaze” to be part of our vision. So they are. And I am excited to be constantly reminded that we are not doing this on our own. We have a higher, stronger power to lean on. That the troubles of this world, the adversity we might face, is nothing compared to how the God of our Universe will utterly amaze us with His presence.
